To install Tecrostar mezzanines you need 2 adults (they do not need to be DIY experts). It is recommendable to use personal safety equipment like gloves, boots, etc. in order to avoid accident.

When installing range L mezzanines you may need to use some type of scaffolding or ladder for working at heights and manual or electric lifting machinery to raise the primary beams, particularly if the structure is more than 3m high. The other ranges can be lifted easily by hand.

You will need the following tools to install the mezzanines: tape measure, some type of spanner for m10 and m8 bolts and a screwdriver (an electric screwdriver will make the task much easier), spirit level, drill and a tool for cutting the panels (saw, jigsaw, circular saw, etc.)

You can find all the tools required to assemble it and tested by Tecrostar in the tools section.

All the models are installed by following these steps:

Pre-assemble the structure on the floor in the desired area.

Raise the outer structure to the desired height.

Finish assembling the structure and floor.

Can I install the mezzanine in my apartment? Will the structural floor bear the weight?

Yes, you can. As they are manufactured with light steel profiles with a high yield point they are very light and the load per column is very low. The only restriction is the storage load on the mezzanine: instead of 200kg/m², it may be reduced to 800kg for the whole mezzanine.  A home with a concrete structure usually supports a point load of at least 200kg on a surface of 5x5cm. The T8 mezzanine weighs 199kg and the T15 mezzanine weighs 356kg, both weights are distributed over 4 columns. You can install either of these two metal mezzanines in your home, provided that the load stored on them is limited.  Ask Tecrostar about the specific features of your project.

Can the stairs be placed outdoors?

Yes, our products can be installed outdoors, although you should bear in mind a series of special considerations and carry out maintenance of the material to guarantee that they are in good condition. See this section for more details

Can the stairs be anchored to a mezzanine or construction wall?

Yes. They can be installed on a surface that is not a Tecrostar surface. The customer must bear in mind that they are responsible for the strength of the joint and structure to which they are anchored.

How are the stairs anchored to the top?

If you need to anchor the stairs to a structure that is not a Tecrostar structure, see the following details about the anchors:

Sección FAQ

Before starting
You should understand that...

You can install a Tecrostar mezzanine without any construction work or special tools. You can install it yourself easily and safely. The most outstanding feature of the kits is that one structure can have multiple height, width and length configurations. They are mezzanines in kits, in modules, adjustable, extendable and customisable. The following demo videos show how they work.

Which mezzanine do I need?

After understanding how they work, the next thing you need to do is choose the structure that best suits your needs. To do this, we shall focus on the height at which you want to assemble your mezzanine. There are 4 ranges according to the height and each range has various mezzanines according to the surface area:

“S” Range- From 160cm to 233cm high

Perfect for making a mezzanine, loft bed, a modern micro-loft in the home or office or for creating a small storage space in the garage or attic.

“M” Range- From 172cm to 281cm high

Perfect for creating a small office, living room or storage space in a garage or a warehouse.

“L” Range- From 209cm to 342cm high

Much more than a mezzanine. For large spaces in work areas or light storage.

“XL” Range- From 235cm to 380cm high

Mezzanine for industrial use, it enables pallet jacks and shelving units to be used.

More than one mezzanine suits my needs, which should I choose?

We might have various models of mezzanine that meet the dimensions you need. In this case, follow these criteria:

1- Load-bearing capacity

2- Maximum span (Distance between columns)

3- Beam height

4- Height of the mezzanine above the decking you need

How do I receive my order?

It will be delivered in one or various boxes, depending on the order (check this section to see the dimensions of the boxes). The box contains everything you need to assemble it at its maximum height and surface area.

Is it a customised mezzanine? How does the Tecrostar system work?

No, it is not a customised mezzanine but its telescopic design enables an almost customised finish. This system is length and height adjustable, achieving the preferred measurements. The components are small and light (less than 2.4m) and are easy to transport, in lifts, fitting through doors or windows to the place of installation, as the beams are spliced in the middle.

The height of all models can be adjusted at 12cm intervals and the length at 10cm intervals. So the mezzanine can be adjusted from its minimum values to its maximum values at these intervals.

Mezzanines
Can I close the mezzanine with plasterboards?

Plasterboard is a low density material, so you can make a closing wall on top of the mezzanine. You can also close the lower part of the mezzanine when mezzanine is indoors. When this closing wall is made in mezzanines installed in the exterior, you should consult tecrostar, since lateral wind load can cause the structure needs stability kits.

Can I install a Tecrostar mezzanine outdoors?

Tecrostar products can be installed outdoors (exposed to the elements), provided that a series of special measures are taken during installation and that you carry out regular maintenance in order to ensure that the materials are in good condition. The recommendations are the following:

  1. The Tecrostar mezzanine flooring comprises moisture-resistant plywood structural panels. However, it is recommendable for the customer to apply waterproofing paint to the floor and exposed edges; this will be particularly effective for preventing water from penetrating and getting into the tongue and groove joints of the panels and affecting the edges.
  2. It is also recommendable to install the mezzanine with a slight slope (approximately 2%) to make it easier for water to run off and prevent it from accumulating. This incline can be achieved by installing levelling plates under the highest columns of the structure.
  3.  Similarly, all wooden components (wooden steps, cleats, etc.) should be treated with some type of water-resistant paint or varnish to prevent dampness from penetrating and cracking the material, thereby resulting in the loss of its mechanical and aesthetic features.
  4.  In addition, wooden components should undergo regular maintenance, the surface protection applied (varnish or paint) being checked to see it has not deteriorated and reapplying when necessary.
  5. The steel components are coated with paints suitable for outdoor use but as after one or two years the paint will probably need to be touched up in small areas like edges and corners that could show signs of rusting and loss of shine. It is recommendable to polish these areas to remove any rust and then apply the paint.
  6. If the mezzanine is going to be installed outdoors near the sea, the maintenance recommendations should be carried out more regularly, due to the greater corrosive power caused by the presence of salt and humidity.
  7. The aluminium handrail of the railings does not require special maintenance, as all of them undergo surface treatments to guarantee their performance outdoors (anodized silver, lacquered in black or with wood effect).
  8. The structure and its corresponding floor anchors and braces are designed to withstand the actions of the wind. DO NOT CLOSE OFF THE SIDES, as this results in greater horizontal forces not considered in the calculation.

Can the mezzanine be installed without columns or removing a column? Attached to walls

No, our mezzanines are sold with columns by default. We cannot guarantee the resistance of walls or corbels and the customer will be responsible if the product is modified in these cases.

Stairs
Where can I put the stairs?

The stairs can be placed in different positions, increasing the possible configurations

Case 1: Exterior stairs, perpendicular to the mezzanine.

Case 2: Interior stairs. You will need a beam for interior stairs.

Case 3: Exterior stairs, parallel to the mezzanine. You will need a stair landing.

Case 4: A different placement to our mezzanines.

Can the stairs be placed outdoors?

Yes, our products can be installed outdoors, although you should bear in mind a series of special considerations and carry out maintenance of the material to guarantee that they are in good condition. See this section for more details

Extensions
Can I add an extension in the future?

Yes, you can add an extension to an existing mezzanine. You do not need to buy both structures at the same time.

Can an extension be installed to a mezzanine from a different range?

No, the extension cannot be integrated and share columns. However, structures can be placed side by side and achieve continuity of the floor but you will not save any columns and there will be two columns together at the joints.

You can do it yourself with the help of a friend. It is easily installed in a few hours, depending on the product.

TS8 Mezzanine: 3 hours with 2 people

TM15 Mezzanine: 4 hours with 2 people

TL30 Mezzanine: 5 hours with 3 people

The times are a guideline and for assembly only. You need to add the time it takes to measure up, move the components to the location, clean up, etc.

How is the product shipped and received?

Mezzanines are shipped in boxes by an external company in a lorry with a tail lift that enables the box to be unloaded to the ground (at street level at the customer’s address).

How do I get the product up to my home?

Don't be alarmed by the total weight of the product, the components are light and manageable, so you can move them easily and take them up in the lift.  The heaviest components are the primary beams from the L range (39 kg), the rest of the ranges are considerably lighter (12kg).  The floor panels are very light and fit in any lift. No component is more than 2.4m long and therefore, fits in most lifts.
